Yesterday, the Atlantic hurricane season peaked with only five named storms forming and no hurricanes in sight—a historically quiet start for the region.
Experts caution that activity could increase in late September and October, so residents should stay alert.
Ocean rescue chief Joyce Fuhrman warned that king tide season starting today may rapidly raise water levels, potentially creating dangerous sandbar holes.
She advises anyone trapped to remain calm (avoid fighting the current) for safety.
