About this event

This is not a lecture. It is a working circle.

Girls of color are not a problem to be solved. They arrive already carrying culture, leadership, and knowledge. What shapes their experience is the room the adults around them build — and that room is what we work on.

You will spend most of the day practicing rather than listening: rewriting real conversations, sitting in a role-play and then trying it again, and designing one change you can make the following week.

WHAT WE'LL EXPLORE

- Cultural humility and identity-conscious practice

- Listening, communication, and relationship-building

- Restorative response — including repair when we are the ones who caused the harm

- Creating conditions for belonging, trust, and connection

- Girl voice, agency, and leadership

- Collective care and adult sustainability

THE G'CIRCLE™ LENS

The girl at the center — a person, not a principle — surrounded by six conditions adults build together: Cultural, Intergenerational, Restorative, Collective, Leadership, Empowerment.

WHAT PARTICIPATION INVOLVES

Before — a 60-minute online course, completed on your own time. Required. You will receive your login in October.

Saturday, November 7 — six hours in person, 8:45 (survey) with start time: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with an hour off at midday.

Within one week after — a 10-minute field self-check, completed after applying one practice in a real interaction.

By mid-December — one 30-minute follow-up conversation, virtual or in person or focus group. (voluntary)

WHO THIS IS FOR

Adults who mentor, support, lead, or work alongside girls and young women in community-based, school-based, faith-based, leadership, and enrichment settings. You do not need years of experience — only to work with girls of color, and to want to do it better.

DETAILS

Free to participate. Intentionally limited to 20–25 participants. Please bring or purchase lunch; food is not permitted in the training room, and we break for a full hour. Water bottles are welcome.

Registration closes Friday, October 16, 2026, or when all seats are filled.

A NOTE ON THE CAPSTONE

Developed as part of Desireé Robertson, Kristin Gobbi and Gerry Marrero's doctoral capstone in Applied Learning Sciences at the University of Miami. Participants will be invited to complete brief reflections before and after the experience to help assess and strengthen future G'CIRCLE™ learning experiences. Participation is voluntary, no one is identified by name, and complete participation information will be provided before enrollment.

Listed by Goc Collective Inc (Wix Events), gathered by the Hollywood events calendar.
